Cookie policy
(We apologise for polluting the internet and our site with this timewasting guff and the cookie pop-ups, but we don't make the rules)
To make this site work properly, we sometimes place small data files called cookies on your device. Most big websites do this too.
What are cookies?
A cookie is a small text file that a website saves on your computer or mobile device when you visit the site. It enables the website to remember your actions and preferences (such as font size and other display preferences) over a period of time, so you don’t have to keep re-entering them whenever you come back to the site or browse from one page to another.
How do we use cookies?
A number of our pages may use cookies to remember:
· your display preferences (if this feature is implemented)
· if you have agreed (or not) to our use of cookies on this site
A simple cookie on our site will remember if you have accepted and turned off our cookie pop-up at the top of the page. It does not do anything else. This is generally set to last for a number of days to avoid annoying you if you revisit our site later.
Enabling cookies is not strictly necessary for the website to work but it will provide you with a better browsing experience. You can delete or block cookies, but if you do that some features of this site may not work as intended.
The cookie-related information is not used to identify you personally and the pattern data is fully under our control. Any cookies on our site are not used for any purpose other than those described here.
We do not share any marketing information and we do not gather or pass on any information that will lead to ads following you around the Internet.
Third party cookies
Like most websites, this site contains links to other sites. We may provide links to useful other sites. Our site may have links to various services including the following:
· Our Facebook and LinkedIn pages
· Our mailing list providers (currently MailChimp)
· Our suggested Internet bookstore (normally Amazon or Bookdepository)
· The websites of professional societies and accreditation bodies
When you click on any link that takes you away from our site, the site you go to may have its own cookies, and its own cookie policy, which is not controlled by us.
How to control cookies
You can control and/or delete cookies as you wish – for details, see aboutcookies.org. You can delete all cookies that are already on your computer and you can set most browsers to prevent them from being placed. If you do this, however, you may have to manually adjust some preferences every time you visit a site and some services and functions may not work. You may also have to log in again to sites which normally keep you logged in, as those sites may “forget” who you are.
You may have a utility clean-up program installed on your device that will have an option to delete cookies – also see your browser’s help files for instructions. Programs such as CCleaner will help you delete cookies.
It can speed up your browser if you periodically delete all cookies other than the ones for sites you know and trust such as your bank and your favourite shopping sites. You will probably find a lot of cookies you don’t recognise, which are there for marketing purposes to track your browsing and shopping activities. We don’t put any cookies like that on your computer.
Also see our privacy policy page
We may change this Cookie Policy from time to time (for example, if the law changes or if we provide additional features on our site which might involve additional cookies). Any changes will be immediately posted on our site and you will be deemed to have accepted the terms of the Cookie Policy on your first use of our site following the alterations. We recommend that you check this page regularly to keep up-to-date.
